Luscious Lashes

Hello, all you beautiful people welcome back to the Trotting Traveller Blog!  This week’s adventure involves lashes…. EYElashes (not beatings).  Now I’m the type of person who wears almost no makeup and has a morning routine of about 15 min — 5 of which involve me pouting because I have to get up (I’m not a morning person).  Like many women, my friends and I discuss different beauty trends and the topic of eyelash extensions has come up numerous times.  I’d heard so many good things about them but hadn’t gotten them done before — the most appealing part being that no mascara is needed (AHHH)!  I decided to see what all the hype was about and get my lashes done — perfect timing because I had a wedding to go to!

My adventure began with, of course, getting lost and rain (if you haven’t read about my trip to LA I encourage you to do so now — you’ll see that rain, and getting lost are a part of who I am).   My appointment was at Joli Peau Fine Aesthetics, located in a professional building with no character. In fact, forget character, no sign either; thus causing me to get lost.  On the one hand, GPS is saying “your destination is on the right” and on the other hand, I see a chiropractor’s office…no aesthetic salon.  Several u-turns and choice words later I finally found the place only to realized you have to pay for parking…as if this service doesn’t cost enough you now have to pay to park your vehicle.  After all this, you can understand why I was grumpy at the beginning of my appointment.

While the building itself is just a notch above ugly, the interior decor of Joli Peau Fine Aesthetics office was pretty — colourful, with chandeliers, you instantly feel beautiful when you’re inside.  The staff were friendly, but I have to say my lash technician was GREAT! She was super fun and made you feel comfortable right away.  She listened to the type of look you were going for and explained everything she was doing while she did it.  Fun fact of the day — did you know that you have to lie still with your eyes closed for 1.5 hours while they are doing the “procedure”.  I nearly fell asleep, but the technician kept me awake and we had some fun conversations and laughed lots!

I was pretty surprised about the procedure in that it stung while they were applying the glue and they used tape to press down your bottom lashes (so they don’t get stuck).  It was a very strange feeling — a burning, sticky, stinging sensation.  The irritation resolved once the procedure was done & you cannot get water on your eyes for ~ 48 hours after (so everyone… baths instead of showers).  Once the procedure was complete, I was SUPER excited to see the end result.  Man, my eyelashes were SOOO long with a lot of volume.  I looked…like… a model (OMG)!  It was a little strange looking at myself like that, my eyelids felt so heavy, compared to what I was use to.  For more information & appointment times check out the Jolie Peau website (please note image to the left is from their website).

I was/am happy with the end result, I now walk around with no makeup!  However maintaining this would be a lot of effort.  Once you have your lashes done once (just like nails) they require a fill every 2 weeks.  I think, for me, this would be a once in a while occurrence (for weddings, parties etc).  I would, however, go back to this salon.  The service was great & the end result was amazing.  I would rate them ♥♥♥♥ out of 5 hearts.

Awesome post! That definitely describes the experience. I loved the look of my lashes when I got them but you’re right it is a lot of upkeep. Glad you got a great technician, that part can be hit and miss. Keep up the great content!! ❤️
